The Front Page is top heavy with “GAWKER is Cool!!” shit. That site is like a bad habit I can’t quit, and every time I use it, I feel dirty. It’s maybe time I should seek professional help

Honestly, after scrolling for the 1st minute or two, I just stopped. Too much self congratulatory bullshit for me. I’ll go back when it gets back to smokey burn-outs and $kay’s post for COTD.

I got COTD once for a comment about a Tesla. My first thought was “meh, I bet $kay gives me a photo of a Tesla.” Instead, it was inexplicably a Rolls and I left happy. It’s a little scary how good $kay is at what she does.

Many of the Gawker blog writers do a very good job. There is no shortage of articles that take on tough subjects and do it well. Damn well in some cases. Diana M’s stuff on Deadspin is a good example. A lot of Giz articles. Beth and Stephanie @ Vitals.
Others seem like cheap immature replacements for people who left or yellow journalists in the purest form. Putting ANYTHING up to keep the clickables flowing. Fact checking is nonexistent, fiery hot takes mandatory.
I get that we are an economy of attention these days. I get that clicks and traffic pay the bills. Not every article is going to be hard hitting. Writers have bills to pay.
However it’s tough to have both credibility as a journalistic enterprise and a fire hose spraying (sometimes damaging) horseshit at the same time. If the bad greatly outweighs the good then you have a problem. If it’s an image problem that’s bad enough you won’t have too many people in your corner.
In my humble opinion what they do and what what they think they do are different. You cannot cherry pick all of the good that you do and ignore all of the damage that you cause.
